oil pressure sending unit differences?

Featured Replies

any difference in an ea81 oil pressure sending unit and an ea82?

i stuck a new one i had sittin on my shelf for an ea81 on my ea82T that i stuck in the RX.. guage reads fine (around 50 at 2k rpms)

but i was curious as to any differences.. to me the original one on the old engine and the ea81 sending units looks the same.. same threads and all, lol..

the sending units for the guages ea81 and ea82, that have the small threaded nipple, all send the same ohm, current, whatever. i have an ea82 in my ea81 car, and it sits right where the mechanical guage sits.

i guess the only ones that are different are the ones with the big threads, almost as big as my thumb, are for dummy lights, or maybe digi dashes, since i have never had either one, im not sure.

as far as my experience, if it fits, and its off a subaru, it works.

Odd, I had the sender in my '84 Brat fail recently. Couldn't find an EA81 unit in the yard so I bought one from an EA82. It works; but I have 75 PSI at all times even at idle. Most likely I got a flakey unit because I see no reason for them to be different for the two engine types.

:burnout: My oil pressure went way down. Bought a new sending unit and it still is the same. Am not having any engine problems. I think there is something else (ohms, etc). This is a 1988 subaru ohv engine. Am going to do further checking (wiring)

Thanks for the info. Will try some of these ideas.
