July 25, 201114 yr So...the last clutch I put in was on an old style GL/Loyale...years ago Whats different about the hydraulic clutch? I have to do a 2003 impreza RS....ugh... So what parts do I need Is the installation procedure much different than the older models? disc, P plate, TO bearing, what else? Pilot bearing? When would you have the flywheel resurfaced or not? Oh...I remember there used to be an "0" stamped in on the flywheel? and a mark on the new pressure plate and somethinfg about keeping the marks 120 degrees apart for balance reasons??? Keep in mind that I am selling this as soon as it is done...so the less money spent the better....thus, whats a good kit at a low cost? Anyone recommend something they have used and where bought? Thanks gents!
July 25, 201114 yr This covers a 99 2.5RS but the procedure is the same. http://www.rs25.com/forums/f105/t128163-diy-clutch-replacement-pictorial.html
July 25, 201114 yr Author thanks durania...great write up I assume the 99 uses the hydraulic clutch... So...a few unanswered questions: There is no balancing issues when mounting the P plate? Anyone want to chime in on the lower cost clutches(source/brand)? Perhaps something someone has used in the past?
July 25, 201114 yr I had a stock Exedy clutch put back in my RS. Worked just fine. The 99 does use a hydraulic operated clutch.
July 25, 201114 yr There is no balancing issues when mounting the P plate? No. Anyone want to chime in on the lower cost clutches(source/brand)? Perhaps something someone has used in the past? You need an Exedy KSB04. Amazon has the best price. About $145 - you aren't going to find a complete kit for much less and if you really cheap out you may regret it's performance. Have the flywheel surfaced - about $25 to $30 at any machine shop - a good shop can do it while you wait. GD

July 26, 201114 yr About the flywheel resurface do I pull out the pins and mark where they go back or is that the shops job to pull them?
July 26, 201114 yr Ah ok I've heard of some people saying they did not put the pins back so it's best to mark where they go in case they don't put them back. Hopefully that wont be the case
