March 11, 200422 yr I was wondering..... a 1.8L the ea82 subie loyale motor what does one of these engine pups weigh.......... does the motor weigh 300 lbs.......???? who out there can give me a good poundage on it thanks,Micky
March 11, 200422 yr It aint 300 - I can lift one and move it around myself - it's rather awkward tho... I would say somewhere on the order of 150 lbs without all the junk attached. GD
March 11, 200422 yr Author SO would you day when all is said and done and the motor is ready to be extracted from the engine compartment. two and maybe third set of hands can lean over and wriggle the pup out and set it on a five gallon pail? for a gasket overhaul........
March 11, 200422 yr 2 people can lift a complete turbo ea82 out of a car no problem.. did it a few weeks ago.. to get it outa the car hole, or stripped you need 2 people.. the 3rd would be for moral support, lol..
March 11, 200422 yr I lifted one from the ground to the back of my Brat and then unloaded it myself. Around 150 max. I'm no big guy.
March 12, 200422 yr Author That is good to hear......... I figured all that aluminum can't be heavy.... but, I wasn't thinking it was that light....... that is pretty cool...... 150 pounds.... this will be my task this weekend...... hopfully i can bust it out and have time for a life as well....
March 12, 200422 yr I have lifted an EA81 by myself and moved it to a higher bench/table to be worked on. Not completely assembled but not bare either. They are not that heavy if a girl can do it. Pulling them out of the car is a little trickier though cause you have to worry about getting past the motormounts and bellhousing studs. Seen several EA81s pulled out at the junkyard with two people and no jack or hoist, even helped do it once. It was not easy but it was not that bad either. I realize that EA82s are probably heavier though.
March 12, 200422 yr The EJ's are even heavier. Getting one out of a crushed wheelbarrow into the back of ones truck by themself sucks. Anyway, a 2x4 can be tied to the engine and each end of the board lifted on someones shoulder, if you aren't interested in having your back snap clean in two.
