Do I need the ECU?

Featured Replies

I have an 81 Cali Brat, but have replaced the cali hitachi carb with a weber. Is there anything else the ECU really controls?

i pulled mine out once upon a time and found out that it controls the electric choke as well (DOH!) So...i put it back in and just live with the stupid check engine light to let me know that there is zero emissions stuff under the hood and the computer is freaking out. If you want to wire up the electric choke yourself then by all means yank it.

You can swap over to the black FPCU and run the wire for the choke control to the carb - then you can eliminate the ECU.

I have a CA 85 Brat with weber and computer is unhooked. I used a different hot when on wire for choke wire.

-Now i know why the original choke wire wouldnt work on weber.

Cool. I use a manual choke, so I guess my brain completely replaces the ECU!

The Fuel Pump Control Unit - they made them in variety's that control the fuel pump only (blue box), and one's that controlled the fuel pump AND the electric choke (black box).

Is that the little box that has a mitsubishi logo on it?

Thank you for your Kind Answer...

Best Regards.

Yeah - it has a mitsi logo on it. Generally located right above the hood release cable bracket above the driver's left knee.
