March 17, 200422 yr I tried the search feature and found nothing in regards to adjusting the front suspension height. As you can see the front of the BRAT rides really low. Granted the rear has slightly bigger tires, but it shouldn't that drastic.
March 17, 200422 yr The adjustment (if you have it) is on the front struts - it's two 21mm nut's that raise the strut spring's lower cup. If your strut's have ever been replaced there's a possibility that you don't have the adjustment anymore. The adjustment is only about 1", so if you want to take the rake out, then you should lower the rear some. In fact, Subaru doesn't reccomend running the rear all the way up all the time. It puts more stress on the torsion bar.... and yes, they can break. Also - running the front suspension up, will impact your camber, and increase tire wear on the front. So you really should run with the front all the way down, and the rear all the way, or half of the way down. Also - having mis-matched tire sizes causes "chirping" when in 4WD, since the front is locked to the rear, and must turn at the same speed. Engage 4WD only on slick surfaces, or you will bind up just going straight down the road.... GD
March 17, 200422 yr Exactly as above. The ultimate ride height fix is a 4/3 lift kit. Under $400 and done in a weekend.
March 18, 200422 yr Author THanks for the info. I found the bolts you were talking about. Will also try to get matching tires up front. \ BTW what's the largest size I can run w/stock rim and suspension? bw
March 18, 200422 yr Author one additional thought on suspension. Has anyone ever tried to use Impreza struts and springs on a 82 car? I am getting some Legacy Outback struts for my Outback Sport. This will give me an extra inch or so clearance. That leaves me with extra struts from the OBS. I will look into whether the BRAT will be able to accept the struts. BW
March 19, 200422 yr 185/80/13's are about the tallest tires you will find, 1 1/4 to 1 1/2-inches taller and should fit with no problem. Another thing to consider when jacking the front end up is front boot life drops pretty fast.
