1985 I think. Starts right up, 152,000 miles. I love it.

Welcome. Nice to see a good looking east coast Brat. I like the paint job.

Back seats were just held down with a single lag nut each. I'm going to have to fix that. Old radio picks up all the radio stations, compared to my 02 ranger that only picks up one. Exaust/ leak, and the brush guardit came with is going to need some modifications to fit. Just spent about 3 hours cleaning it out.

Nice. Pretty decent body.

Looks like something used your back left tire as a bathroom :brow:

Congrats on the snag. It also looks to be a DL Brat since you do not have T-tops.

I am a little over an hour from you in Crossville.

says gl on emblem on tailgate.

Is it automatic?

does not fit the criteria for a GL, the badge is not for that BRAT, someone glued it on. Oh well, still a very nice BRAT all Brat's are awesome.

where can i find a dash cover?
I've got a dash cover in tan; I might consider parting with it.

GL dash is different than a DL.

So many question no much answer.

A dash cover for a Gl is not same as a DL.

GL has options.

Dl is optionless, and the cluster is DIFF.\

so far pics show a DL Brat. now who has a used GL dash pad i could use that.,? and tankx

Its automatic. The original owners warranty book calls it a gl. And all the registrations call it a bgl.

Here's the dash.

A '85 GL

with Auto Tranny

No T-Tops...

Is it Turbo???

I think you have a pretty rare find there.

Since most people opted for the Brat platforms with options, these base models are seldom found.

how would i tell if its turbo. its an ea81 and 1985 and according to the wiki the turbo stopped in 84.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_EA_engine

"EA-81T

The EA-81T is not an official engine designation from Subaru. The "T" is used informally to refer to the turbocharged version of EA-81 engines that are equipped with a turbocharger and multi port fuel injection.

Additional specifications Compression Ratio: 7.7:1

Supercharging Pressure: 7 psi

Valvetrain: OHV Pushrod

Horsepower: 95 bhp (71 kW; 96 PS) at 4,200 rpm (US)

Torque: 123 lb·ft (167 N·m) at 2,800 rpm (US)

looks like second picture. no turbo on it anywhere.

I thought 84 was the only year it got gl trim with auto and no t-tops. Do you have a gold sticker on the valve covers?

Its got a sticker that says don't adjust valve clearance, that looks like it might have been gold originally.

so... the important question then is.... does his dash cover fit :brow:

the inner boot on both front axles is ripped all around, do i have to replace the whole axle. where would be a good place to look if i do?

I have always done the whole axle since it probably has slung all the grease out and the bearings have crap in them now. 36mm socket will be needed.

Welcome to the Subaru world. Too bad it's an auto, you'd much more enjoy a manual trans with the hi-lo 4wd. T-tops would be awesome too. Can't beat a camo Brat though, no matter the options it lacks. That would be the perfect hunting vehicle. It can fit into some tight places.
