Ej22 N/a to ej22T, OR supercharged?!?!

Featured Replies

So I've tried to find some stuff on this but I've been contemplating the idea (if possible) of making a ej22 into a ej22 Turbo.

Would it be possible, if so what upgrades would be needed?

General conesnsus is the EJ22 NA does not take boost too well.

EJ22T that came in the turbo cars is significantly different in design and doesnt give you THAT much power.

So what I've found is they don't produce that much hp difference, so just keeping a ej22 and not turbo-ing, but putting a cold air would be ALMOST as powerful as a ej22t

"Cold air" on an NA as powerful as a turbo? Where'd you read this, a Cavalier forum?

No - a cold air intake (actually they are "short ram" intakes and they don't pull cold air they pull warm air from the engine bay) will do NOTHING for performance and there is NOTHING you can do to the EJ22 NA that will bring it even close to the stock performance of the EJ22T except run boost through it. Reliability takes a big hit.

Redevil has gone through a LOT of engines and he hasn't used the NA's for a long time now. It ate them like candy. I beleive in it's current config it's running an EJ257.

I was starting to wonder when the next Turbo thread would pop up. :-p

This is one of those topics that gets brought up about every 3 months. To try to turbocharge an Ej22E is a waste of time. An engine swap is more reliable and more powerful, only thing is, a swap costs more than buying a car that already has a turbo. Even if you buy a parts car, unless the frame is rusted out or it's wrecked, it's easier to fix the parts car than it is to swap the engine/ wiring/ parts needed to make the turbo setup work.

Supercharging is basically the same story except you can't buy a supercharged Subaru unless it was done by someone else. Use a turbo block and it will work just as well as a turbo setup, but you pretty much have to piece it together yourself.

My EJ22T has significantly more HP than a NA EJ22 ;)
