March 22, 200422 yr a girl i know has an 87 gl 4x4 and the carb gasket on it blew and the person she brought it to doesnt know how to fix it. Does any one know where to get it done, she has the gasket.
March 22, 200422 yr Re you talking about the gasket that goes between the carb and intake manifold? If so, just unbolt the carb, remove the old gasket, clean the mating surfaces, apply new gasket, bolt carb back on. Its pretty easy.
March 23, 200422 yr Why shouldn't you flip it over? I've flipped over a number of carbs - never had a problem..... GD
March 23, 200422 yr I have seen plenty of carbs end up with problems after being flipped over.. Granted, none of them were soob carbs, but somehow I doub't that they are so much different than any holley, weber or rchester I have worked on..something to do with crap in the carb shifting around and gumming stuff up.. It was explained quite a bit more eloquently than that when I was in Automotive school.. But a combination of the warning in school and the real life experience leads me to issue that warning on the off chance I give any carb related advice (which I rarely do.. Fuel Injection is where my interests lie, so I generally ignore the carb threads)
March 23, 200422 yr you dont flip the carb over because all the gas in the float bowl will spill all over your motor through the bowl vent.. It could start a fire.. other than that, you can flip em all around
