SVX rear disk on impreza

Featured Replies

I was just curious as to whether anyone knew is you can swap svx rear disk brakes onto a 98 impreza obs?

I have been told the SVX wheels have a different bolt pattern so you would not want to use SVX brakes. Easier to buy a whole knuckle and brake setup with ebrake cables to do the swap. Or you can piece them together.

SVX use 5x114.3, same as the STi.

You can swap H6 legacy brakes onto a normal legacy, but I'm not sure if it works on an impreza too.

use gt/limited brakes from a legacy for the fronts, and rear disks from a first gen legacy. it all bolts up, just grab the ebrake cables too, it makes it totally easier.

hawk hps pads for 02-... wrx fit the gt/limiteds and I can tell you they WORK

So the rear disk brakes off a lets say a 92 legacy will work on my impreza? I was at the junk yard last weekend and was kinda mad caise almost all of the legacys I found had rear disk and Im suposed to have a "sport" version impreza and its rear drums. If they do work will it affect the abs system?

im not sure about the abs system but if I were doing it, I would swap out the proportioning valve for one from a legacy or one from a impreza with rear disks to get the pressures right.

also, I personally cannot think of a single 1st gen legacy ever having rear drums. hmmm

The easiest way to upgrade is grab the whole hub assys with brake parts connected and swap the whole thing as a unit. oh and be sure to grab the rubber brake hoses too.

i used outback limited brakes on the front of my legacy,(fronts are direct bolt on, just need calipers/brackets and rotors, stock rear discs with hawk pads all the way around and i was happy as could be.

Ok thank you for the info ill be keeping my eyes open for the whole set up next time im at the junk yard. I thought it would be nice to have the extra stopping power when towing my little trailer full of camping gear. Its probably only 200lbs extra weight but when going down steep mountian hills it would be nice having the rear disk.

honestly, for medium duty stuff, the rear drums are more than adequate, and if it were me, I would go for the front upgrade before I worried about it too much. twin piston calipers up front with "track style" fade resistant pads make all the difference in the world. Plus the rotors are bigger, which reminds me, that if you wish to upgrade the front brakes, you must have 15" wheels

I do have the stock 15" steelies on her right now so thats not a problem, ill keep the front disk upgrade on my want/ to do list. I typically have to just wait until I get lucky and find cars in junk yards to be able to upgrade since I usually cant afford an already pulled kit I sometimes see on cragslist or here haha. I did find an 80s turbo wagon and got a set of rear disk for my 80 last summer best part was it was 1/2 off weekend so it was all pretty cheap.
