fuel float stuck?

Featured Replies

I was a little past empty so I put in 9 gal and its just a tad over empty? That can't be right? Pictures when I get home

The sender is probably shot. My buddies truck has a bad sender, when you fill it up the gauge reads 1/4 tank. It never goes above that or below the empty line, you can drive 150 miles with it sitting on 1/4, then it starts to drop, and when it gets to empty you fill it up and it takes 18 gallons. 20 gallon tank. Gauge goes back up to 1/4 and stays there.

That would explain what happened on Thursday it was at 1/4 and I went to pass someone and I remember saying in the car WTF?? It went from 1/4 to Empty and that was that..

I know $40 of gas should have the gauge reading just about spot on at 1/2 a tank.

So how much does the dealer kill you on the fuel sender? $300?

I hear some say use techron I still have a bottle left I think but I can't see how it will help all that much.

well checking the price at a somewhat local place it's $149 for both the sending unit and sub unit which is not bad

you think $149 for both senders is high? I thought that was kinda cheap.

indeed it is a chunk of change..... but also i have read that this is quite a common thing to go wrong with our soobs....mine acts funny also but hasnt done this yet lol...... try F and S auto parts..... they have a website and are located in roxbury ct. just went there yesterday..... great junkyard and they have everything you would ever need for a soob

I searched and did not see anything I'm just going to get it from the dealer $150 for both passenger and driver senders not not bad and its new.

My post apparently didn't post.

I have a half dozen of these sets from scrapped cars. They have been stored for a few years though.

This is a common problem.

FYI usually you get a LOT of fuel smell if you don' t get the new rubber gaskets. If you're going to the dealer to get the pumo/sending units get both gaskets too.

just a heads up i've noticed the impreza's with the older type cluster (94-97)had a cluster issue that would cause this. The 3 screws on the back would loosen up and cause it to stick on E. I went through a couple sending units and junkyard clusters til i figured this out lol

it's not that anyways it floated up to the level in the tank

Normally I would suggest pulling the sender, cleaning the electrical wip surface with a pencil eraser, and reinstall
