96 Legacy manufacture date question.

Featured Replies

I've noticed when ordering parts online that the compatibility info often state's the part fit's only after a certain month in 96. How do I find out what month my 96 Legacy was produced? I already know from experience that a cold air intake from a 97 doesn't fit a 96.:horse:

Check around the drivers door for a sticker or plate that will have a month and year on it.

yes, and the month of production in 96 determines whether it's an interference engine or not, and which hydraulic tensioner you need for the timing belt kit, etc. I had a 97 that was made in 96, but it was after the changover, so it was an interference. Strangely though, it used the older tensioner.

95 - 96 should have a sticker on the B column showing the build date.

I THINK, in 97 they moved the sticker to the bottom of the driver door. yes, you have to lie on the ground and look up at the bottom of the door. don't ask me why, they just did. and if you have ''old'' eyes, be prepared to use more than one pair of glasses to read it. there isn't much room between the door and the ground.

at some point , I THINK, they moved it again, but i'm not sure.

yeah but i remember it was you John who told me how to find sticker a long time ago, and i had a 97 built in 96 that had the paper sticker along side of door.

One never knows...

i had a 97 built in 96 that had the paper sticker along side of door.

so if it isn't along side of yhe door, look on the bottom of the door. when o got a 97 outback, i thought they quit putting the sticker on the cars. i couldn't find it any where.
