March 27, 200422 yr ok i stripped the 17mm bolt on my oil pan , it is still on the car and not leaking , what would be the best way to get it off? what other bolts would fit ? it is really tight , would any auto parts store have 1 ? thanks
March 27, 200422 yr jim, when we were in WV, we bought an oil pan drain plug for some 2 bucks, and it came with a nylon gasket for the drain plug.
March 27, 200422 yr Author what auto parts store ? advance auto ? now to get the old one off ,i have plenty of oil pan bolt gaskets , thanks
March 27, 200422 yr If you stripped the threads out--you might need to get a "oversize" plug--these cut new, slightly larger threads--Napa stores carry them--of course, the oil pan is a piece of cake to R&R--just slap a new (to you) one on & be done with it---
March 27, 200422 yr Author i went and got a new bolt for the oil pan, i still can not get the old one off , any suggestions ? besides replacing the oil pan , would a impact work ?
March 28, 200422 yr did the same on my wagon.. i gae up after claping vice grips on with channel locks so hard that the teeth dug into the plug, then just stripped 1/4" off the plug.. i had to siphon the oil out of the check tube to change it.. gonna just replace my oil pan.. on another note a shop said they'd get the plug out and replace it for about $60 but i have oil pans galore just sittin around.. and it leaks too soo..
March 28, 200422 yr Author i have a new drain plug , i'll check with a local shop and see what he can do , he ows he a favor anyways , then i guess a different oil pan , which i do not have ,
March 28, 200422 yr http://www.fumotovalve.com i have one of these on my wagon and it's worth the money. You will want to tickle the skid plate to use a drain hose more effectively.
