The car is looking great! After you do the sliders you need a rear bumper to match the front!

Should be bolted up front, tack welded sides, and welded to the rear block on next Monday.

Got a lot done today.

A little unspoken fact about fern until now:

fern has been running with no suspension lift this whole time (body lift equal to strut lift)

scott built her as a daily and wanted stock telemetry. ;)

Her rear struts are the stock fwd impreza, outback fronts.

I purchased some rear outback struts and had Scott at SJR lift make me four new strut lift tubes.

these were both 6.5 lift front and rear..(+1in from outback struts making 1.5in total)

I got all the stuff the other day, decided to do rears first to find...

- my tires rub on the spring perch. (Km2 28s)

- the outback strut is almost 1 in shorter then the 2wd!

Scott let me send him the rears back to extend them 1.5in as

the car sat only .5 in taller in the rear with outback struts and extra 1.5in of strut lift!

(I want the rear a bit taller than the front for loading on trips)

So I can now swap rear struts in 1.5 hr. Alone..

stock 2wd and lift is in rears till I get my extended ones.

these tires bearly rubbed so I have 1in spacers on the way aswell.

all this for a stiffer spring rate is still worth it.

Those 2wd struts and springs make it look like I have hydraulics

especially with the bumper/winch weight. If I drive foreword the butt drops, backwards an she shoots the moon!!! Lol.

i love the front now. Just one and a half inch suspension lift is noticeable.

pics to come when rears are all in!

have a look under the hood. everyone seems to have a "lift color" this is mine...

Damn, your imp is rad! How does it corner being that tall? Do you still have sway bars?

  • Author

"-removed front sway bar, car has no rear bar (nice n slinky on the trails not bad on the road)"

been driving like like this for one year.

i rarely drive on the freeway, arround town is no problem.

I would not want to swerve hard at 60 so I don't...(Neither do the jeep folks)...

I drive nice n steady, usually with an "out of towner" tailgating me. ;)

Deer are running out in the road everywhere lately as they got driven in to town by hunters. They hang in the peoples front yards.

Got all the parts collected for the rear lift...

just need to prime and paint the extensions Scott fixed up then install. Waiting for a sunny mountain day.

Thanks so much Scott, you've been so busy with that new rig and

its exciting to see the build

Telemetry

Telemetry is the wireless transmission and reception of measured quantities for the purpose of remotely monitoring environmental conditions or equipment parameters. The term is also used in reference to the signals containing such data.

Telemetry is used with satellite s, space probes, and mobile robot s. Telemetry is employed in manned spacecraft, such as the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station (ISS), to monitor the physical condition of astronauts and to ensure the maintenance of a proper working environment for them. Telemetry is also used with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST).

I think you mean geometry?

  • Author

Well occasionally fern and I go on space flights. Yet that's not public knowledge till now.

Please view and follow the advise of this video when making and or posting any more videos.

Looks like Fern and you are having a lot of fun together.

Thanks guys.

Part of the joy of my tinkering is to share the journey.

I've customized a few cars in the past and

I've been a part of a few car forums.

This little corner in "Subaru Motorsports"

is one of the most fun and unique digital garages I've been in.

next on the list is full alignment.

then I would like to get the sliders over those rear carriers done before it starts to get really cold!

I still have my studded tires, I think I'm going to try this year without them...

we will see how she does when the snow comes.

they keep telling me it's so cold here that the roads are usually packed powder.

last 2 seasons here have been warm so melted snow in the day became ice overnite.8/

Good thing you have your studded tires still.  Not sure if you'll like the KM2's in the snow... I know I didn't. Ok for for deep fresh stuff but not packed pow.

  • Author

Yeah I think I'm going to put the studs back on these wheels.

Then through the winter save for some steel forester wheels and put my km2s on them.

left my rubber strut top flaps rolled back so the lift can peek out..

Unless it's one with difflock, he's got a better trans in there already.

5spd, 3.9 D/R pt4wd with the 1.59 lo.  The only advantage to an EJ box would be an EJ clutch.

He just needs a 2.2

why are all new cars really TALL in the midsection? your roof is the same height as the new subaru but you have MUCH more ground clearance.

why are all new cars really TALL in the midsection? your roof is the same height as the new subaru but you have MUCH more ground clearance.

People want headroom.

They want more headroom-then they raise the seats  .Now these cars have taller roofs and lower floors.Just own up and get a damned minivan.

fun fact: 98 VW jetta is taller than a gen 1 brat, although the brat has far more ground clearance. It takes roughly a 3" lift to get a  gen 1 brat as tall as a FWD Economy car...And I chose the brat as the basis for an offroader...
