zero oil pressure

Featured Replies

i have a 87 2wd ea82 wagon

I noticed today while at a stop light while the car was warm that my oil pressure gadge read 0 psi. When i accelerate that it reads close but below 45 psi

I have noticed it drop a little below 45 when idleing before but never this low. the oil level is full and it only has a small oil leak (which i dont think is rare for a subaru with 200k on it).

I was wondering if it is the oil pump or mabey something else. I have also noticed that the lifters were clacking louder than normal latly.

Thanks

David

In all seriousness, if you have an owner's manual for the car read it. This is 100% normal and the owner's manual tells you so. Common question.

Either your sender is going out or your gauge is - zero oil pressure would sound REALLY BAD!

not only would it sound bad but i suspect the sudden stopping of the engien might also be a dead give away of no oil pressure

now you may have crappy oil pump seals casuing the lifter clatter

had it on mine same mileage well i got 17k over yours

replaed the seals no more lifter noise

thats just what ea82s do,low or 0 at idle is normal, read the manual keith is right on. one of my ea82s goes right to 0, and the other hovers around 2 or 1.

if it was an ea81, different story, from what i've seen

Well that is good news to me, i have read over the owners manual but it was a while ago, mabey its time for another look.

I think the lifter clatter is something i can live with because this is car is back up ride until i get my 83 wagon road ready.

thanks

David
