Fram / Subaru Oil Filter Recall

Featured Replies

So whats the best filter to get? The speced bypass on OE that big of a deal?

I run Bosch filters. I started my mechanic tenure as a lube monkey at an Acura dealership, and the owner of the dealership had an NSX (Along with a lot of other expensive cars) and swore by Bosch. He told me to crack one open and compare it to the Honda OEM ones and a Fram one. Needless to say, I've always ran Bosch since then.

My local napa had some split open filters on a stand when I was a kid, you could clearly see the differance in the filters you were getting. I don't know why they don't do that anymore, I've always thought that was a great idea.

Used fram when I had a muscle car. Never had any problems. I ran the basic one with the black grippy stuff at the bottom. I remember the first few times I had that car I ran the PureOnes with out the grip stuff. Those filters were crap! I had one where the innards were cracked in one spot. Car always ran fine, but that was the last straw... Others had the gaskets not seal right, and my oil pressure light would come on...

Yeah, now its the wix for me. Seem pretty good so far!

I've used Fram filters for years. Never had a problem.

I tend to change my oil filters more often than recommended, so they are not in service for very long.

Maybe some other filters have better-looking innards; but if the Fram does the job, then I'm happy.

I read on another forum that some are having problems with Wix filters.

Remember if you read it on the internet then it has to be true.
