replaced water pump, car wont start

Featured Replies

I have  a 98 impreza wagon. i replaced the water pump which obviously entails removing the timing belt. i took off the alternator for convenience also. I lined the paint marks on the cams and the arrow on the crank gear to 12:00 o'clock when putting it all back. the car doesn't turn over at all. nothing electrical  no turn over, no radio, no nuttin. is there a sensor that detects that is so out off time that it wont allow it to turn over at all ?

thank you. would that prevent the car from turning over ?

Yes. These  engines are a little tricky, go back and re time it.

yes, these guys know what they're talking about. I did mine (t-belt, water pump and associated idlers) first time ever without a hitch thanks to these guys and the website.

i've done something else. bumped a wire or something. got the timing marks correct but there is nothing. no lights, no radio, no turn over.

horn work?

battery connected?

2 large connectors on the rear of the engine passenger side? double check.

now, put it in PARK, and try again.

did you have any SPARKS at any time during the process?

disconnected and replugged the two large clips and the horn works, but still no nuttin.

Did you not disconnect the battery before removing the alternator?

If not, the main fusible link is probably blown.
