93 Loyale Mass Air Flow Sensor..Unusual?

Featured Replies

I got some limited info from someone else's somewhat related thread ...I'm going for max exposure.....want someone to tell me yes or no..

My Loyale runs like a dream after she's warm (i been beating this dead horse for a while..no need to go into the other suspect causes... I know them all and getting the parts together)

Question:

When she's idling beautifully in neutral, I remove the mass air flow sensor connector and she dies immediately.

Normal...yes or no?

many thanks

Yes. You've basically just blinded the ECU and it can't read how much air is coming into the engine.

Very normal!

It would kind of be like disconnecting your diaphragm and seeing if your body still operates as expected...

You should probably also reset the ECU after doing this, otherwise you may get a check engine light or a stored code.

Does someone have instructions on how to reset the engine codes on an 87 GL10 2wd auto?

For the love of knowledge... What a mass air flow sensor does - is measure the amount of oxygen entering an engine through it's intake. What an oxygen sensor does - is measure the amount of residual oxygen left in the exhaust. The ECU then takes the measurements from both the MAF and O2 sensor and adjusts the air/fuel mixture accordingly... In theory creating the "perfect mixture."

-Cheers.
