October 31, 201312 yr There are stories of onethat was taken to shop and a 30-40 ton press couldn't get the axle out of the hub. These are often stuck in there really good though. If a 3lb sledge wont budge it after a few hits, a hub puller can usually get it loose without mushrooming the end of the axle.

I was hoping to put the old axle back in again but now the "U" joint is stuck at a downward angle and will not go back into tranny. SMH
October 31, 201312 yr Best bet would be replace the hole hub with a j yard special. We had one on the shop that did the same thing, tried pressing it out and nothing. Had to replace the whole thing. Good luck
October 31, 201312 yr Yea for those that live in the rust belt it would be wise to pull them and grease the splines to prevent rust.
October 31, 201312 yr My buddy had a stubborn one, we pulled the whole thing and put like 10tons to it, gave up and got the whole deal from a yard.
October 31, 201312 yr Pep boys, autozone, etc have pullers (really pushers, heh) for sale and loan. A good 3-arm one with fixed arms and made to be hit with a sledge after having the bejeezus tightened out of it will do the job (after you put the arm back in the ball-joint so you can really smack the bugger)
October 31, 201312 yr I HAD TO DEAL WITH A SEIZED AXLE IN A HUB. WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN 60 DOLLARS WORTH OF BRAKE PADS BECAME 300 DOLLARS WORHT OF JUNKYARD KNUCKLES AND AXLES
