January 8, 201412 yr Correct me if I'm wrong but with ABS I should never really be able to lock up the brakes, or I should at least hear it buzzing. I looked just behind the passenger side light and saw the ABS unit under the hood but when I drive my 1996 Impreza I never feel the abs kick in and I can lock up the brakes. Am I missing something or is something busted somewhere? There are no abs or check engine lights on in the dash, is there a fuse or relay somewhere that I can check? January 8, 201412 yr You should be okay. If you can try it on a slippery surface is when you'll feel it kick in. Slushy, snowy, muddy roads and it should show up. If not, then yeah something might be off. I'm not a fan of ABS for myself though. It's disabled on the cars I have that came equipped with it. Pumping the pedal does the same thing but with a human brain operating it instead of a computer.
January 8, 201412 yr Author I tried it on some snow, locked up pretty quick, going to check the fuse box first
January 9, 201412 yr Make sure the ABS light comes on key on, engine not started. Check for power to the unit, key on.
January 9, 201412 yr DO you have an ABS light on on the dash? Are all the fuses in place under the hood?
January 10, 201412 yr On the ABS pump itself there is a cover where some relays sit. I wonder if one of them have been removed.
January 10, 201412 yr Author There is one relay and one big plastic coverish thing that I cant seem to pull out
