April 2, 201412 yr two questions about the 95 - 96 ej22: 1/ if you remove the rocker assembly off of the right side head, can it be swapped on to the left side head as is without reassembly?? or are they specific to one side? 2/ what happens if you bolt ej18 (95) heads onto an ej22 block (96)? compression change? power loss? EGR may be a slight issue, but there is always the work around. i have both sets of heads, 22s and 18s, but the ej18s are dual port. i'm just wondering how big a mistake it would be. thanks, je Edited April 2, 201412 yr by johnceggleston
April 2, 201412 yr Rocker assemblies are the same on each side. You CAN swap ROLLER rocker assemblies. You can NOT swap tappet style rockers. Tappet rockers have to stay matched with the cam. As far as I know there isn't any difference between 22 and 18 heads. If you have a graduated cylinder(or liquid measuring cup), you can roughly measure the volume of the combustion chambers. Measure the valve diameter with a mic or fine ruler.
April 2, 201412 yr sure, bolt EJ18 heads to EJ22 block, i can't imagine worrying about power difference on those small output engines. you can likely adjust compression by choosing a gasket thickness if you're really worried about it from cometic or six star, one of them offers varying thickness headgaskets.
April 2, 201412 yr Roller cam - roller rockers hydro cam - hydro rockers cam must match rockers. I find the single ex 2.2 makes more power and low end grunt. Duel port revs higher and better at high rpms
