Last of the 2wd Subarus?

Featured Replies

Not really important but...........

I was just wondering what the last year/model was that Subaru offered 2wd?

I believe I looked at a 94 Legacy that was 2wd. Glad I passed on that one...

Seems like Subaru switched to AWD for the 95 model year (began selling them in 94), but I may be wrong.

After the Outback everything was AWD. The first gen Legacys you could still get FWD and as noted that was uptill 1995.

96 was the first year for AWD only. They did make an out back starting in late 95, they are easy to spot because they do not have the side cladding, just gray on the bottom portion of the body (like the 96) however, on the back the "outback" badge is just a sticker that says "OUTBACK" with a tire track in the background (Like the Impreza Outback) rather than the plastic badge the 96 and up had.

I concur, but offer this: In the year 1996 2WD was dropped, but I expect the AWD only models are all tagged 1997.

U.S. Sales History By Drivetrain, all models

1997 -

AWD: 133,749

FWD: 34

Total Sales: 133,783

Not sure if the year is the year in which the sale occured or the model year of the vehicle.

In case this helps, my 96 Brighton is AWD and was built in september 95.

NO!!! AWD has been around longer than that!!!!! I looked at a 92 legacy turbo AWD today. look at www.cars101.com

Right. That's not what they're talking about though. The 92 legacy was also offered in FWD, and the poster was wondering when Subaru stopped making FWD cars.
