July 8, 201411 yr I bought a cv axle at Napa for my 1988gl wagon with a 5-speed Dr. The axle I got looked exactly right, but the inner end of the axle where it slides onto the transmission shaft is slightly too large to engage the splines. What did I buy by mistake, and how do I get the parts store to sell me the right one? Edited July 8, 201411 yr by alaskaloyale
July 8, 201411 yr Sounds like you got a 25 spline turbo axle. Next time you get an axle count to make sure it has 23 splines on the inside. I usually just buy parts for a 90 loyale. There are fewer options in those years and you're more likely to get the right parts. Edited July 8, 201411 yr by 987687
July 8, 201411 yr what he said - order one for a 1990 loyale. its an EA81 or turbo axle. an 88 GL hatch is an EA81 and quite different from your 88 GL wagon.
July 8, 201411 yr It's definitely a turbo axle, an ea81 axle would fit on the trans stub but would be too short in overall length to work properly.

July 9, 201411 yr Author Thanks guys! I went back to NAPA and purchased a new manufacture axle that seems to fit. Even came with a new castle nut and cotter pin. Saying 1990 solved my problems. Edited July 9, 201411 yr by alaskaloyale
