August 1, 201411 yr I might be buying some pug alloys this weekend just wondering if anyone has any opinions on sandblasting alloys.
August 1, 201411 yr On my 1988 salad cutter alloys on my XT6, looked horrible when I bought them. I used a spray can of paint remover to strip the crappy clear coat off that was trapping the dirt and corrosion under it. after that i used a brass brush on a drill and then a foam sanding block to finish, only took an hour and looks way better. have yet to re coat them. I chose not to blast them with abrasive so as not to remove the lathe marks that shine so distinctively on alloy rims.
August 1, 201411 yr This is what my wheels look like after sandblasting then after I painted them and 7 coats of clear coat

August 3, 201411 yr Soda blasting might work for this? Have been thinking about doing the same to mine. Soda blasting is gentle, and is easier on your lungs...still recommend a good mask, though.
