Sandblasting alloys?

Featured Replies

I might be buying some pug alloys this weekend just wondering if anyone has any opinions on sandblasting alloys.

On my 1988 salad cutter alloys on my XT6, looked horrible when I bought them.

I used a spray can of paint remover to strip the crappy clear coat off that was trapping the dirt and corrosion under it. after that i used a brass brush on a drill and then a foam sanding block to finish, only took an hour and looks way better.

have yet to re coat them. I chose not to blast them with abrasive so as not to remove the lathe marks that shine so distinctively on alloy rims.

This is what my wheels look like after sandblasting

then after I painted them and 7 coats of clear coat

Can I see a picture of the whole car angerthis? The wheels I might pick up are the same as those

Hey I'm just curious where can i buy the stripping spray used for stripping The clear coat? I just bought a pair of rimd for my 88 gl-10 wagon they're in pretty bad shape

Soda blasting might work for this? Have been thinking about doing the same to mine.

Yep - don't use hard mediums like sand, unless you want them to look dull afterwards ... ;)

So are you going to the

west coast Subaru show

I'll be there playing in the mud

my brand new BFG's should do well

You can tell by the picture but the wheels aren't just black

I came up with my own one off colour

They are black with green glitter

you really have to see it in the sunshine to really get what it looks like

the center caps are in such bad shape I use this stuff called hammer grey

Soda blasting is gentle, and is easier on your lungs...still recommend a good mask, though.
