Show me your TMIC on EA81

Featured Replies

I'm looking for info on intercoolers installed on EA81T's.

I've spent a few hours searching and reading dead end threads and looking at missing pictures.

EA82 get to use the spider intake manifold, EA81's can not.

I have an 02 wrx TMIC already.

The devil is in the details as they say.

I'd like to learn from others mistakes on how exactly the plumbing comes together.

Mandrel Bends and silicon elbows are expensive.

What to hard pipe?  What radius bend did you use?

What silicone couplers did you use?

Don't lecture me about Horse Power.  This is not a HP mod.

No I don't have time for an EJ swap.  This is my daily driver.

And I already put my eye out with a BB gun, so thats out of the way.

Thanks in Advance!!!!

You should try the search function.  Several people have retrofitted inctercoolers to EA82T powered vehicles, not so many have done so on the EA81T, but it should be similar.

This is a Mitsubishi Starion cooler unit on an EA82. Something like this might work.

This is not my picture.

I cant believe they used the stock Throttle body tube.  It seams so restrictive.

Also there are at least 2 vacuum line that come off the stock rubber boot going into the turbo.  Idle air and something else.  Are those still there???

NO BOV?  Does the turbo surge?

Blow off valves are used to release pressure at high revs/pressure when you come off the throttle so you don't fubar the compressor. Chances of that happening on an EA81: Zero to none. If you have an FI turbo'd rig, the 'blow off' needs to be rerouted back to the intake side of the compressor or you get a 'hiccup' since the MAF has already seen the air coming in and the engine is 'expecting' it. Again, still not necessary with the little EA81.
