Listen guys, forgive me for some very obvious questions, things I most likely know, but i have been very very sick the last three months and really it saps things out of you. The trying to communicate with Dr's when you can speak clearly, the frustration on Dr's jumping to the wrong conclusion, the tears of frustration....

My 2005 Outback Ltd is a bit of an odd bird. It has a black leather interior when it shouldn't. It is more 2004 then 2005 when it comes to diagnostics and some systems. Trying to trace down some transmission fluid leaks (tired hoses) and found something odd. There are transmission lines that go behind the battery.Do I have a filter lurking back there? I can find it in any manual or on opposed forces.

no filter, probably cooler lines. the filter is on the drivers side trans case on those years

there are hard lines from the transmission, then it goes behind the battery, then comes back out to the transmission cooler. Ill see if i can get a good pic.

Told you my car was weird. Guess I should think about changing it.

WHo has changed these things as 35.00 is a bit steep for a filter.

There's a filter in there. Pull the battery out and you'll see it inside the fender area.

Little late on that reply.

Last AT filter I got was about $35 from the dealer. Luckily they don't need to be changed that often.

I think once every 200,000 miles it should be done :)

Our 03 has it next to the battery like that. It has the weather [ackage but I'm not certain about towing package. We have no hitch.

I wouldn't change it unless the case got opened or maybe someone used an incorrect fluid or similar major issue.

supposedly, that filter (which is  very different from an oil filter BTW) was added by JATCO or whoever to clean-out any debris after original assembly.

Yes it has no bipass valve inside it. Just that those hoses are leaking so i thought since I am there.

Interesting reason for it.
