June 6, 201510 yr looking into getting a press for Subaru wheel bearings, timing bearings, and bushings. Will the HF 12 ton variety work fine for that?http://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-a-frame-industrial-heavy-duty-floor-shop-press-1667.html
June 16, 201510 yr For most things that will probably work fine. For really stuck wheel bearings it may not have enough oomph.
October 29, 20169 yr Any follow up on this? I was looking at a similar one at Northern Tools this morning for wheel bearings.
October 30, 20169 yr The 20 ton goes on sale for not much more than that. I did opt for the 12 ton, but it's still in the boxes
November 9, 20169 yr Good call, saw a 20 ton at HF for $200. That should be enough for wheel bearings? And if the jack is junk I can always get a better one and still use the frame?
November 12, 20169 yr Good call, saw a 20 ton at HF for $200. That should be enough for wheel bearings? And if the jack is junk I can always get a better one and still use the frame? If you wait for the discounts you could get that 20 ton for $160 & use the difference toward some nice press plates like from SWAG offroad: http://www.swagoffroad.com/ARBOR-PRESS-PLATES_p_7.html Those arbor plates supplied with HF presses just aren't what I would call safe at any speed. And for fabbing brackets & skid plates: http://www.swagoffroad.com/20-TON-Press-Brake-DIY-Builder-Kit_p_40.html
November 15, 20169 yr Good call, just printed off a coupon for $160, think I'll pull the trigger this week.
November 15, 20169 yr I thought mine was less than that, but it was the cheapest one at HF when I bought it, and I don't see one for less.... Mine is plenty, I've probably done a dozen subaru wheel bearings. Lots of bushings, as well as some bearings and such. I've had a couple things fight me, but I opted to apply heat before maxing out the equipment. 12 Tons is a lot!
