November 27, 201510 yr 1999 Legacy Wagon steering is jerky when turning, even at complete stop. First noticed at low parking lot speeds and tight turns, but now starting to notice occasionally at higher speeds. Power steering fluid level OK. Hoping it's not my steering gear. How would I know if that's the problem? Has anyone else run across this? Appreciate any help.
November 28, 201510 yr My first guess would be a loose belt, but if it has the same issue at speed there could be something going on with the pump. Is the fluid dirty or old? Has it been changed since you've owned the car? Make sure the belt is tight and in good shape.
November 28, 201510 yr Author the belt is good. I'll try changing the fluid. Any other ideas out there?

November 28, 201510 yr look for bubbles in the fluid while idling, have someone turn the wheel. you don't want bubbles.
November 28, 201510 yr Author No bubbles. I've changed the fluid. Spraying the U-joint is a good idea I'll try. Thanks for the input, all!
