Why do the earlier logos have 6 stars and later ones 7? When did it change and why?  Did the Pleiades cluster expand at some point?

I've Never seen such a thing...

Look at the header to this website, there are 7 stars in the logo.

Well, that's a Good Answer... and explains your confusion.

 

But that is our "Ultimate Subaru Club" and USMB own Logo,

 

which is Nothing official from Subaru, nor FHI.

The idea behind that Logo, is to Merge the Old-School styled Badge, that had a small star under the Big one, with the Newer style of the Subaru Badge, meaning that we all are a united community, no matter if you drive an Old-School Subie, or a New Subie.

Yep, that is  "Subaru"  written in Japanese.
