I just want to know people's opinion of oil for a 93 loyale. Been using 5w40. Works fine just want to know what you guys use or suggest. Thanks

Check the owners manual for recommendations. 

 

Many folks, including me, run 10w40 all year.  Extreme cold or hot may require seasonal adjustments.  Some folks prefer 20w50.

20 years been using Valvoline 10W-40 which is what the Subaru expert I knew then recommended.  Also he recommended only Genuine Subaru (or equivalent) oil filters, never shift into/ out of 4X4 while turning, and to always keep and eye on the water & oil levels. 

I've been using 10W-40 Amsoil since around 1988.

Follow the owners manual. It will roll 300,000 miles all day long on whatever oil is on sale.

 

That's why there are so many various opinions - it doesn't matter.

 

Forced induction racing or severe towing may change the discussion.
