June 5, 200421 yr I have an 1983 3AT Soob with push button 4wd. I plan on a tranny swap....is there any physical differences with D/R and S/R trannies? Like length ..etc.
June 5, 200421 yr If I remeber there is only a small change in the tranny. i think the casings are the same and the support is the same. I did this recently, you should have no problems, hold out till you get a DR. It is worth the wait....
June 6, 200421 yr Some people prefer S/R for the street. My 86 Turbo Wagon has it, but thats the Wifes car. She wouldnt know what to do with D/R
June 6, 200421 yr there is no dual range auto tranny. a 5spd dual range will swap in with little mods. you will need the driveshaft, clutch/flywheel assy, driveshaft and diff for the swap. you will need the crossmember for an ea81 manual tranny. the shifter hole and tranny tunnel may need massaged a little. right now i have a dual range 5spd and an ea82 in my 83 wagon. but many a person has done the swap, let the questions fly!
June 6, 200421 yr Author Does anyone have complete or almost complete instructions or tips for the swap.

I like having a d/r tranny on the street. Slap her in LOW and then I can beat a lot of people off the line. When I get the EA81TT in there, i'll be a little more than just "off the line";)
