May 31, 20169 yr Been kicking around the forums and I havnt heard anything about an ej25 swap. Just the older ej 20s and 22s. I was wondering if anyone had looked into this and if there was some serious issue with doing something like this. I mean, I'd think that having 230hp+ stock and have room for upgrades in an 1900 pound car would be amazing
May 31, 20169 yr The biggest reason that there arent more dohc swaps in the ea81 chassis is because of the narrow frame rails. The only engines that fit without body modification is the 90-98 sohc motors. This does however include the ej22t from the 91-94 legacy sport sedan and touring wagon.
May 31, 20169 yr Wouldn't that big of a power increase require swapping the rest of the driveline to avoid breaking it? Also, the ej25s are known for headgasket problems.
May 31, 20169 yr A few EJ25 swaps have been done over here, but mostly they include the installation of a matching dual range ej trans (which we were fortunate to receive plenty of) and are mostly done to 85 & newer models where the rails are wider. Mostly however here though, because of the availability of the ej dual range, the older models are ignored and mods are done on legacys, imprezas and foresters
June 2, 20169 yr Author What If you wanted to swap all the drive line components including axels with custom fabrication to mount everything. I mean if the axels were shortened to fit the width of the car and have the driveline shortened to fit the length of the car
June 2, 20169 yr If you swap out the entire driveline, no worries, it should be as good as whatever it came from, or better if the total weight is less.
June 2, 20169 yr Author I know this is gonna sou d weird but what if I wanted to carburate it. Has anyone ever seen that done where you have a blow through carb along with the turbo on any type of ej
