1992 loyale won't start after warmed up

Featured Replies

Won't start once up to temp. Starts up right away when cold. Runs smoothly, doesn't hesitate while driving. Just won't start until its cooled down. Any thoughts would help. Thankd

You say "it won't start"  Does it crank , or is it just totally dead ?

It cranks over.If I wait 45 min to an hr it starts right up. The car is extremely clean. No smell of gas nor do I try to press gas pedal to the floor when trying to restart.

I also have a huge folder of maintenance receipts from first two owner so been trying to compare what they've replaced to somewhat similar problems in the forums but I'm at a lost.

did you check for any computer codes ? If no codes then possible causes are:

-vapor lock, next time it fails to start try removing fuel cap off gas tank to see if it helps

-fuel pump/ relay affected by heat

-coolant temperature sensor

-alternator / voltage regulator being affected by heat

No codes. Everything but alternator/ volt regulator has been replaced by last owner within the last few months. I'll test or replace those. Thanks

The alternator & voltage regulator don't begin to do anything until the engine is running.

The next time it happens, check for spark, and fuel pressure.

Mine was doing the same thing.  It was a poor contact on the alternator control wire.  Try to wiggle it and attempt to start it again.

Good luck,

Sam

It gets spark and fuel. I've owned the 92 for a few days now. Thanks for the ideas (on both the posts) I'll try them all after work today. Thanks again

If I disconnect the CTS the car should start right?? Also a friend told me the ea82 has a "oil charge canister". Which if true causes same symptoms, but can't find anything online about it. Is this true?? Thanks again

Never heard of an oil charge canister.

No, test the CTS with an ohmeter and thermometer.  The FSM shows a handfull of temperatures and resistance readings.

So I replaced the CTS. It restarted a little sooner around 20 mins compared to an hr. But then cleaned control wire from alt to starter with MAF cleaner(all I had) and good as gold. Now time to lift. Thanks Somick and DaveT
