July 14, 20169 yr Are 2000-2004 rear axles interchangeable? This shows different part numbers and someone said today they are a different length? https://subaruparts.com/parts/2003/SUBARU/Outback/VDC?siteid=218240&vehicleid=44981&diagram=7522655&diagramCallOut=5 Just curious...
July 14, 20169 yr Not sure why, but I noticed the same looking in the FSM. As far as I can tell they were different starting in 90 all the way up to at least 04, probably beyond.
July 14, 20169 yr hmmm...could the LSD rear diff in the 'weather' package be the difference? no one has ever mentioned an external difference in anything I've read - just internal. It says 3.0 liter, maybe it isn't length - but axle dimaeter for more strength? Edited July 14, 20169 yr by 1 Lucky Texan
July 14, 20169 yr Might be this : axle assy manual trans - vs - axle assy auto trans, 3.0 liter Cheers, Bantum ...
July 14, 20169 yr The 3.9 diff in the legacy SS has different axles on both sides for the LSD drive or something... I think the side difference is because of the part that goes through the seal, it has some spirals cut into the surface I think for keeping oil from getting out. You can see what I mean in the uppen axle in this pic: http://i.imgur.com/mqb0ysx.jpg
