vtwinjunkie
I am leaning towards no. but I wanted to ask the gurus. I contacted the dealer and got conflicting reviews from different dealers. one told me it has the limited slip and I should be using 75w140 synthetic rear fluid the other told me that it does not and takes the standard 80w90 gear oil. I ended up putting the 80w90 in it but I am wondering if I may have screwed up my limited slip by doing so..... anyone know for sure how to tell? 1 Lucky Texan
even if it is LSD - it's a sealed viscous unit and the gear oil never mixes inside the unit. something like the 80w-90, or a 75w-90 would be fine. And in the rear diff, it can be synthetic or conventional. If the car was purchased with the Weather Package, it may have rear VLSD - not sure. (maybe someone here will know, or dig around at cars101.com) if you put the entire rear up in the air on jacks - spin one wheel in forward travel direction. If the driveshaft is free to spin and the other wheel moves in forward travel direction - you have LSD. Open diff; the other wheel will move in the opposite direction. golucky66
If you have a LSD you can use 75w90 or 80w90 but you need to add a friction modifier (I'm pretty sure it's called that, or at least something similar) otherwise you will wear out the clutch packs pre-maturely. Thanks, I am not sure about the weather package, I have heated seats and a heated windshield...so maybe? I am the third owner (got it with 100k miles) and the paperwork says rear diff was done at 50k or so with 80w90 (made no mention of friction modifier) I will get it in the air this weekend and have a look Edited January 6, 2017 by vtwinjunkie
