October 28, 20178 yr Picked up a replacement 2.2 for my outback. But the engine is from an AT. I'm thinking I only have to swap in the flywheel and clutch assembly. I'm sure this has been done. Any thoughts?
October 28, 20178 yr You might have an egr port on the back of the drivers side head to plug. While engine is out, separator plate updated?

Any thoughts? AT and MT doesn’t matter at all. Bolt flywheel to engine. Note EGR. If donor doesn’t have EGR then install it as is. If donor has EGR you’ll block off the EGR port. If you have a 1995 MT then that’s a non-EGR engine. Ideally we know what year vehicle and donor engine
October 28, 20178 yr If both '95 use the intake that comes with the new engine. It will be EGR that you don't need. Unplug the EGR connector and it won't know any different. That saves blocking anything
October 28, 20178 yr Author I have a 95 outback. The new engine is a 95. Not sure what car it came out off. Thanks for the comments. That helps. My plan is to swap then rebuild the current engine. Head gaskets, yada, yada, yada. Thanks again.
October 28, 20178 yr There really wasn't a 95 Outback. It was just some decals and trim bits. They didn't have the suspension or the 2.5 engine of the "real" outbacks. That started in 96. So for mechanical discussion, it's a 95 Legacy. Head gaskets is not a rebuild. That's a reseal. COMPLETELY different things. If you are just doing HG's they can easily be done in the car - no need to swap. For that matter you can pull it in the morning, install HG's and do other reseal tasks and easily put it back in and not be late for dinner. GD Edited October 28, 20178 yr by GeneralDisorder
October 29, 20178 yr Same engine. 95 AT will have EGR and 95 MT will not so it’ll look different but no big deal, plug and play and easy to work around if needed.
