November 5, 20178 yr So every time over the past two weeks when I go to put fuel in Ruby. It shuts the pump off after only putting in 1.50. If I hold the nozzle and go slow she takes fuel fine. But I can't lock the nozzle wide open or it shuts off. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks guys. Edited November 5, 20178 yr by WhtMke
November 5, 20178 yr Rather common unfortunately. several things it can be, all in the evap system. The charcoal canister could be flooded with fuel ... or the valve just behind the canister could be malfunctioning. or the purge solinoid under the hood (probably not) since you didn't mention hard starting. Start at the canister.
November 5, 20178 yr some folks have been able to determine which 'chunk' of the evap system may be involved by pulling various hoses off the carbon canister or fuel neck while refueleing. seems tricky to do unless the gas station is 'friendly' and not too busy.
November 5, 20178 yr had this happen on 2 of my rigs. 98 forester, and 03 OBW H6. both were from malfunction of the spring loaded valve in the carbon canister. just replace the carbon canister with a new one from subaru. worked for both of mine
November 5, 20178 yr Read a post here a while back. Somebody took an old fuel cap ... drilled a hole thru from the top... attached a hose nipple with silicon ... put a garden hose on the nipple .... sat back a good ways ... lit his cigar... and blew the smoke thru the cap down into the evap system ... where the smoke came out was the bad spot... I have never tried this ... could work...
November 5, 20178 yr charcoal canisters can sometimes be slowly dried out . If it has a bad valve it will need replaced. O.E. is nice but very costly . I have found that rock auto is the place to get your evap parts.
