Preliminary results from 6/27 Rallycross

Featured Replies

A fine, sunny day greeted competitors at the recent ORG rallycross in Hillsboro, OR. After a spectacular flip/rollover by a Ford pick up (only the driver's pride and car were damaged), the water truck descended on the course with a vengence. Very slow, sloppy runs resulted in just 3 runs for the morning group. USMB members did very well. In open class, John Alley of Hood River finished 1st. SuperRallyRoo (in his own GL wagon) finished 2nd Open--way to go Matt! XSNRG finished 2nd in Production GT. Truck/SUV was swept by three Brats with my son, Eric, in first place, qman right behind in 2nd and myself in third (surprise). Official results to follow as soon as possible. Likely no photos since PDXmotorsports was at Pikes Peak.

Way to go Ed, you placed in the money!!!!

I heard about that Ranger rolling, but didn't get much more info then that.

Yep a '83 Subaru station wagon beat an armada of WRX's (including an STi) with many thousands of dollars of mods to win second place...nice work Matt!

Excellent work Brat pilots!!!

BTW, I'm sure I saw the PDX guy snapping photos there.

There was certainly someone with a professional camera there shooting pictures. But I'd suspect he should have been at Pike's Peak. Maybe pdxmotorsports has multiple photographers. I'll be checking the ORG site because that's where he usually posts the link to his shots of the rallycross.

That was Wayne. I talked with him for a while in the afternoon.

What a spectacular day. Most, if not all, the participants got tanned or burned. Hot and sunny conditions for the whole day.

The roll over was fast and rather brutal. It appears that the Ranger got out of shape coming into a rather sharp 180 degree turn and caught a rut. Unfortunately, he didn't roll slowly. He went straight from rubber side down to impact on the passenger side upper A-pillar. Then back to rubber side down. The truck is a total at this point.

Mike, the water truck driver, laid down about four truck loads of water to soften the track. The following runs resulted in plus 3 minute times and very, very, sloppy conditions. I was 4th car out after the water truck and must say that I have been on mud runs in the big Brat that had less mud. The track did dry out quickly though. Second and third runs were in the mid to low 2's and the final runs were in the mid 1's. Quite a difference in conditions.

I'm not sure if I want to be present for Rich, the safety stewards, next pre-event speech.
