exhaust donut issues

Featured Replies

so on my 99 legacy wagon, I put the exhaust together after working on the engine. I have a big leak at the exhaust donut. I have replaced it 2X and can not figure out what is wrong. The posts I see make it loo easy. Some you tube video says to put high temp rtv? any tips for when I take a shot at it again next week.

Thanks

Exhaust doughnut?

I've not heard of this on an exhaust...

Cheers

Yup Bennie;  All the US issue cars have a fiber doughnut between the resonator pipe and the muffler pipe. Uses 2 spring loaded bolts to allow  flex.

I am trying to remember, I think the springs are on the side to the rear of the car, the beveled side, not the stub that holds the donut. I will check toinght

You have to get all of the old stuff out.  I use my 5 & 1 Paint tool and then a rasp to clean out the old stuff.

It's a bit of a pain on your back but that's what it takes.  The shoulder bolt will pull tight against the front flange.  Spring is on the back side of the rear flange.

Ah that flange gasket. I've never heard it called a doughnut before...

make sure it's orientated correctly when out fit it too.

Cheers

Bennie
