November 12, 20187 yr https://annarbor.craigslist.org/pts/d/subaru-rs-ej25-longblock-low/6730408307.html looking to replace my short block and came across this. Advertised as 40k since rebiuld, but pulled to do headgaskets (sounds a little fishy). The cylinders have some slight surface rust and the tops of the pistons look heavily used. I’m thinking I could probably score the short block for $250, but don’t know what to really look for. Any advice would be appreciated!
November 12, 20187 yr Nope - painted with silver spray paint, and the guy has no idea what years it fits. Don't go anywhere near anything that's been "rebuilt" and is painted like that. Call junk yards - you want a "core" engine from a car that was hit in the front and it blew off the timing. November 12, 20187 yr Move on, rebuilt...then failed again...all under a previous owners belt and you're hearing this third hand...chances aren't good that this is a great starting point for parts.
