December 26, 20187 yr Is there a way to check the mileage on the gauge cluster out of the vehicle? The car is 2002 legacy outback. Its at the local u pull and I'm interested in the engine in the car because the car was in such good shape aside from the major accident. I grabbed the gauge cluster figuring there's a way to check it. I got part of the dash wiring also. Thanks for any help.
December 26, 20187 yr I always check the car for Oil service sticker or paperwork. I've powered them up with a 9v battery but it been so long ago I couldn't tell you what connector pins you need to go to. Do you have the same car? Could swap the dash into your car. Other than that you will need the factory wiring manual to figure out + and - circuit.
December 26, 20187 yr Yes. Power it up with a 12v source using the pins specified for switched power and ground in the factory service manual schematic. GD
December 26, 20187 yr Author Ya I looked through the glove box and there was no paperwork. The only interesting thing I found was a GPS tracker hidden behind the gauge cluster. I think I have the wiring schematic, I wasn't sure if it was that easy. I thought maybe it was somehow tied into the ecu. I had a Ford about the same year was like that.
December 26, 20187 yr Author That's good. I'll try to figure out the wiring tonight. I believe I have a 03 or 04 legacy wiring schematic. Thanks GD
December 29, 20187 yr Author That was a lot easier than I thought. The 9v battery worked great to power it up. Thanks imdew. The odometer said 114k not too bad for a 02 H6. Now comes the fun part of pulling the engine in the junkyard.
