October 21, 20196 yr These EA81s must be low friction. I never even overheated. Got close to the red but each time the thermo would open and it coooled off. I noticed because the heater stopped working. Anyway, engine is fine, but now I definitely need a radiator. I'm nervous about wrecking yards, do they check for stop leak? In any case it lists locally (the cheapest) for $270 and $125 out of town at Autozone. I'm of limited funds, so the so called "grade A" junkyard part for $50 seems a lot more affordable. Is it worth the risk? Also, what all year and models have radiators that will fit? IIRC the EA82s were bigger and were part plastic (which I don't want)?
October 22, 20196 yr Stick with anything EA81 and it’ll fit. As for junkyard item vs chain store vs quality radiator builder, I’d go the builder if possible. You might be surprised with the cost they could build a radiator for. They usually need your old one as a template if the vehicle is not staying with them. Cheers Bennie
October 22, 20196 yr Author Well I ordered the junkyard part for now. I did make an inquiry about having one built for it. I bet it's not the first request for this they've had.
October 23, 20196 yr Flush it well and pressure test it if you can. Stop leak should not be a problem in the radiator with a good flush.
October 24, 20196 yr This is a ways from you but still in WA state. Check out this place, their expertise is rebuilding radiators: https://hartradiator.com/
October 24, 20196 yr Hey Mark, 1-800 radiator might be able to hook you up if the junkyard piece doesn't work for you. Also, I have been looking into potential replacement radiators from other models of cars. I'll share my findings with you as soon as I have something concrete. Twitch
October 24, 20196 yr Author Well new, nobody beats Autozone at $125 Though could be core charge unincluded makes rock auto $200? I guess I should go new ut it's a huge hit.
