January 7, 20206 yr the fuel pump in my `89 efi leone has stopped working , i took the old one out and has what looks like to be a pressure regulator ? at the end of it. looked at replacement ones and they dont have this . any more info ?
January 7, 20206 yr The thing on the OEM pump is a pulsation damper. Not critical. There are 2 more up at the throttle body anyway. Edited January 7, 20206 yr by DaveT
January 7, 20206 yr Is the engine SPFI or MPFI, single port fuel injection or multi port fuel injection? They use different fuel pumps that run at different pressures. Are there numbers on the old pump?
January 7, 20206 yr Author doesnt the fuel pressure regulator set the fuel pressure, not the actual pump ?
January 7, 20206 yr Within a range. The different engines require different flow rates at different pressures, and the pump has to match the load.
January 8, 20206 yr The regulated pressure is much lower than the dead-head pressure. The 80's Ford F-150 frame rail booster pumps are typically just fine for any of the EA fuel injection applications. The pulse damper can be eliminated, and if you get a modern pump it will likely be a turbine style and won't have those pressure pulses anyway. GD
