I have never heard of needing a longer TB after PO upgraded to a new style tensioner on a 1996 2.2 ?

Now don't be starting trouble old timer hahaha   well now you have haha...,this engine had the newer style tenisoner on it and it needed a longer belt.it was impossible to put the stock one on. the one i got at the dealer matched right up .it was for a 2000 2.2 with the newer style tenisoner .now beside all that ...i still can't get it running.all the hash marks are straight up ,matched up with the belt marks and NADA.. its firing some  but won't start   ....... just tell me a quick fix hahaha

There is no difference between the belts when using the old and new style tensioner.

The ONLY belt differences is between the SOHC and the DOHC belts. You should be using the SOHC belt.

As for the no start - did you disconnect or remove the cam or crank sensors? These are vital sensors for the ECU to time fuel and spark pulses with.

Cheers

wrong belt. Use a 1996.

If it was too tight it wasn’t being installed correctly or the make/model/year of vehicle or engine/parts is incorrectly stated.

Tensioner has nothing to do with it.
