97 legacy awd to fwd

Featured Replies

I have a 97 Legacy and need to turn it into fwd and turn off the AWD. How can I do that easily?  I tried the fuse thing under the hood. Did not turn off the Awd

SAID FW INSTEAD OF AWD

Is your AT Temp light flashing 16 times when you start the car?

If the FWD light is not coming on when you put the fuse in the holder and you  have torque bind. the C Duty Solenoid is most likely the problem.  Lots of info on the USMB.  Search Torque bind.

Let me explain a little further.  The car is in Death Valley with a busted CV joint.  I just want to disconnect the AWD.  Does it matter the fuse I put in under the hood? Is there any other way of doing this?

Which CV Joint?

Best just to fix it.

Rear, you may be able to remove the rear section of the drive shaft.  More work then changing the half shaft.

Front, no option but to fix it.

If it's an automatic and you have a broken rear axle, it will still drive. Putting the fuse in will keep it from sending power to the back, but either way the front is 100% driven.

If it's a manual. The only way to send 100% power is by welding the center diff. Easier to just replace the axle.
