I have two Subaru's 1981 hatchback one has a bad T71 Transmission FWD and the other has a T81W 4WD transmission in good shape, I need to swap and I need some advice, I will appreciate, the car titles says both are 1.8 but the FWD has a EA71 engine the other has a EA81  engine, I am fixing to use the FWD  into 4WD.  

What can I do?

Depends on if the bell-housings match. Are they both side-starter or is the EA71 a top-starter?

there's EA71's that don't have the starter on the top?

Generally found from late 79 production-wise thru the end of the 1600 , I’m guessing 1987 the latest here in the States.

80-84 sedans wagons hardtops coupe

later for the hatchback which was labeled an STD , or fleet car for the latter years. I have thought they were long finished (1600) and yet I had come across one of those later hatchbacks in a boneyard and was surprised for sure. They came with rubber mats instead of carpet , and generally not much in features and a very “wipe able” interior. And they became “managed” unlike the early gen.
