August 24, 20214 yr Can someone save me the research, please? It would be very helpful to know when (200x) this changed from the a-few-flags to the many-teeth version. Reason I ask is that I'm helping out a pal with an '07 GT that's really busting his chops, we just discovered a missing tooth (don't bother asking why - it's complicated) and knowing which years to scout the junkyard for would save us time+hassle.
August 24, 20214 yr AFAIK it varies depending on model and emissions equipment (California cars got it first). It was about 2002, or so. Looks like some models switched over as early as 1999, but I know my 01 Forester has the older 6-tooth sprocket. https://parts.subaru.com/p/Subaru_2008_Legacy-25L-TURBO-5AT-4WD-GT-Limited-Sedan/Engine-Timing-Crankshaft-Sprocket-U1/49224693/13021AA141.html vs the 6 tooth: https://parts.subaru.com/p/Subaru_2001_Forester-25L-AT-L/Engine-Timing-Crankshaft-Sprocket-1X--C0-U0-UT-EGM-G-EGM-P-U0-C0/49224691/13021AA091.html FYI, EJ25D was '96-'99 and all had the 6 tooth. That LGT has an EJ255, SOHC 2.5s were EJ251s and 253s (and, occasionally, 259s).
August 24, 20214 yr Author Thanks. Looking at the fit table on that first one, it appears that anything with a 2.5 that's '02 or later is a good bet. The earlier ones are mostly 2.2 .
August 24, 20214 yr Why scour the junk yard? They are like $35 from Subaru. Just buy a new one. https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Subaru-13021AA141-Sprocket-Crankshaft/dp/B00I7978HO GD Edited August 24, 20214 yr by GeneralDisorder
August 25, 20214 yr Author 1. Time. As in, we'd like to solve this problem today. 2. The price you see in USD does not necessarily approximate what we wind up paying, all in, when it's headed for Greater Soviet Canuckistan. The amazon link you provided doesn't even display a price. https://www.amazon.ca/Zhixiang-13021AA141-Crankshaft-Sprocket-2000-2015/dp/B091HX1TLZ/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=Subaru+13021AA141&qid=1629850460&sr=8-2 (In case my link won't show you the price, it's almost $100 for a Chinese knockoff.)
