offroadsubaruguy
i have heard that you can run 30" tires if you have a 3" lift and cut the fenders like mad, is this true??????
PHATBRAT
What model do you have? Wagon? Hatch? Sedan? BRAT? I am no expert on the lifts but it doesn't sound right. Let's here what the guys who have the lifts say. (It's like Subarubrat has been saying) There has been alot of misleading info on here lately from people who don't have first hand knowledge. I would trust the people who actually have done it vs the people who say it can/can't be done but have never done it. Boz
GeneralDisorder
Sure - just don't try to turn, cause it's not going to happen. Straight line on pavement and you will be fine. Don't hit a speed bump, and please - no turning...... at all. McBrat had 30's on his turbo brat with a 4/3 BYB lift..... but he said the amount of cutting and beating was considerable.... and they still rubbed. Rooinater
can it be done??? should you??? What should you use??? as for can it be done... yes it can be. hell you could look at my bio and see i'm running 31's... but i've got a transfer case 8" of lift, blah, blah, blah... i would not suggest it. for several reasons, also have a few questions to ask... the first question is why do you want to. i know once upon a time i wanted to... back in my earlier days... the things you are going to have problems with is power, turning radius and offroad finese... you'll have to beat and cut the hell out of those fenders. to the point where it's worthless. trails will be scary. especially ones you can't use high speed and momentum to get over stuff... you'll have no freeway power. and a good lacking of trail power too. a burnt clutch in harder offroading is common... now for what you really should do. one go on my web page. www.westcoaststompers.com find the how to page. and there's an offroad tire article i wrote on there. specifically for subaru's. my favorite tire on subaru's with 3 and 4 inch tires. would be a 27" super swamper SSR. they are a awesome tire! and they are jsut about right. any bigger and you really are pushing your limits. just my 2 cents worth. MorganM
What model do you have? Wagon? Hatch? Sedan? BRAT? This makes a big difference. For an EA82 wagon I can tell you GO for it. I bolted on 15" pug steels and even with their negative offset I fit 30"x9.5" widetrack baja radials. With more positive offset rims you could go wider. To make room I beat in the front fender wells on the unibody good and cut the front fenders in half right at the trim seams. Also trimmed the front half of the rear fenders just along the door line. Rear doors didnt need to be cut and they still seal against the unibody. I now run 29"x8.5" and have plenty of room. I'm looking at how to fund some REAL tires under there. Going to bump upto a real mud terrain tire and will go 30" for sure. Hoping to find the rims I want so I could go 10.5" wide with out rubbing on the struts. Would love to have Super Swamper TSL in the rear and Kumho Venture MT up front. Yummm..
offroadsubaruguy
well, i have thought of using actual baja suspension, ( from the baja vehicles, not the subaru baja ) and doing some suspension lift, but thats a bit pricey, somwhere around $3,000 just for the suspension, not including the price of materials it would take to make it all work..... but at the same time, i have also heard that there is a company somewhere that makes long travel struts.... so i was gonna look into that, because that might also be an option, but probably still pricey...... anyway, what kind of tires can i get in a 29"??
