Hmm, spare 2.2 engines and what to do with them?

Featured Replies

Well looks like I will have 1 if not 2 low mileage 2.2 engines sitting around soon. Long story, but someone screwed up the crank while doing timing belts before I bought my wife's legacy. So I bought a 60k mile motor to put into it, am taking the really good running (but pulley welded to crank) 110k motor out. On top of that I ran by yet another complete and running 130k mile motor with all the wiring harnesses etc..Now the question is do I save them for my XT project if I find one? Would try to put it in my 2wd DL but not worth it, and that 1.8 only has 133k anyways. Suggestions..I like the 85-90 Subies but the transmissions don't bolt up to the 2.2's right?

Nah the 2.2 wont bolt up to the ea tranny you will need an adapter plate. I think there is someone on the board has done this but if not you should try the back-yard boys forum, http://www.ausubaru.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi , they have heaps of posts on this type of thing in the conversion section.

Isn't this a new gen topic? (Not that I care, but you'll get more info there).

Well, I'm putting one in T-Rex (with lots of mods)--The modern AWD 5 speed would be nice in a '80/'86 Hatch----light & LOTS of power---I'm just using the 5speed/2WD box--will work great for autocross---
