September 21, 200421 yr hello all it has been a very long time since i have posted and i like the new format. can some one tell me what is the maximum size tire that will fit under a unlifted 85 wagon with pug wheels?? also is it better to pull the engine when doing a tranny r&r or can i get it done from beneath the car. I simply dont remember these points and I am refurbishing my wagon thanks for the help.
September 22, 200421 yr I run 185/70/14 on mine with only minor rubbing from the rear on bumps when the car is loaded. I wouldn't go any larger if you're not lifted.
September 22, 200421 yr My brother is running 195/60 R14s on his and he has no rubbing at all. However, he has not fully loaded it yet. Dunno, does two 100lb dogs in the back count as fully loaded?

September 22, 200421 yr ea81 or ea82? i think either way you could run 27s with a good bit of trimming and hammering on an ea81 with good suspension, or on an ea82, without much work at all.

I agree; after seeing that 235/75 R15 (that's 28.9" tall) bolted on with that toyota rim (which as 3.5" back spacing) and it barely rubbed on anything... unlifted
September 23, 200421 yr Author Thank you all for the information. I'm going with 13 inch rims and snow tires for now This is because Schwab does not have the tires i need in 14". the smallest is 29" tall and 6 ply...and my account is at schwab's I think the plan is to lift 3" inches and convert to toyota wheels. then wheels/tires is a non-issue. I will have this done before the snow flies here and then we can have some fun. I parked this car in the barn for three years and loaned it out occasionally. I dusted it off last week when the gass prices forced my tonner flatbed off the road I just love this subie-forgotten how much i prized this car. If any one wants to come up here in the mountians to run the woods, this winter le me know.
